Christ in the Womb October 26, 2014/The Word Made Flesh October 24-25, 2014

October 26 Bulletin The Word was made Flesh . . . Following Baby Jesus in the womb

32 Weeks
Baby weighs almost 4 pounds. Total length is nearly 19 inches. If mother is carrying twins, it is important to keep babies within mother to increase birth weights and to continue maturity of organ systems. The average length of pregnancy for twins is about 37 Weeks . For triplets, it is about 35 Weeks . Before ultrasound was available, diagnosing twins was much more difficult.
Baby’s approximate due date: December 25, 2014

--------------------

The Word Made Flesh October 24-25, 2014. >BR>
It's 32 weeks into the pregnancy of our baby girl. She's up to 4 pounds. Just like St. John in the first chapter of the gospel of Luke, she's leaping for joy. But there is an issue. Today, good pre-natal care watches the mother's vitals, and about this time in the pregnancy, many women get put on bed rest for fear of high blood pressure- also known as preclampsia. Just as a precaution, our little girl's mother has been put on bed rest. Her due date remains the same however, the birthday of Our Lord, December 25, 2015.

Grand Knight’s Report:
• Icon of the Immaculate Conception will be coming to St. Clare’s November 3-9, 2014. Prayer service will be November 4, 2014, 6:00pm-7:30pm. In keeping with Pia’s adult education calendar, Mary as the Queen of Disciples will be stressed. We have prayer books and prayer cards. Icon will be at St. Clare's November 3rd-9th
• Liturgical Workshop is on Saturday, October 25, 9am-12pm. If we were going to display the Eucharistic Miracles, we would need to keep the gym warm, we would need more time for advertising, and we'd need a team of men to put down and take up the floor covering. We would only be able to open for 4 hours, between noon-4pm. This seemed too much work for such a short time, so the vote was no-go for now, Ted Seeber to bring this up again to the Pastoral council for a date in the future.
• Nobody showed up to the Open house on Wednesday October 15, so there was no 1st Degree held tonight. Phil and I conducted a technology review, and the new methodology looks promising.
Treasurer’s Report
• Checking $1395.06
• Unity: $543.60
• Charity: $40.00
• One voucher paid to Supreme $32.63, one to St. Vincent De Paul for $500, one to St. Clare's for $50. Financial Secretary Report:
New Bill from Supreme indicated 35 members and $32.53 owing for supplies. Voucher has been issued, and as we heard from Treasurer above, paid.

Worthy Lecturer Michael O'Phelan gave a talk on the Lilies of the Field Gospel, stressing that the only thing we can really control is the present.

Community Committees (heads of committees are absent, so Grand Knight gave a report):
• Next KofC Sunday Breakfast will be November 30, pastoral council wishes for us to bring back the Baby Bottle Drive at this time for Advent.
• Liturgy workshop October 25, 9am-noon. Liturgical and music ministers are asked to attend. Please RSVP to Pia Youth Committee
18 Essays were turned in for the contest, judges have copies
New Business
• Tom Owens asked for volunteers for St. Francis Dining Hall, you can go to that link for more information.
No State Officers were present
Sick or in Distress:
For Kevin Hagan. For the repose of the soul of Mike O'Phelan's sister-in-law. For Bonnie Owens. For all the victims of the Ebola virus
Meeting was Adjourned at 8:00pm with the a Hail Mary for all the people mentioned Sick or in Distress
Meeting notes submitted by James Michael Morgan.

Fwd: Help needed

As discussed last night, the next time will conflict with the Liturgy Workshop at St. Clare's, but the two times after that are excellent volunteer opportunities

Hi Ted

I know that the Knights have been generous in helping the poor and homeless in our community. The St. Francis Dining Hall provides a free drop in center and 2 meals a day for those in need. I met with Sue Unger, director of the St. Francis Dining Hall, this morning and she shared that she would really appreciate some volunteers from the Knights of Columbus to help with painting, cleanup etc. from 10 to 3 on Saturday Oct 25th. She and other staff will be there to help supervise the needed tasks. Volunteers should wear old clothes and not bring backpacks or other items that could be stolen. Lunch will be provided. The Dining Hall is in the basement of the church located at 1131 SE Oak, Portland, OR 97214. Please ask those men who will volunteer for that day to let me know by email by Oct. 23.

For those interested in helping but unavailable on Oct 25th. the next two clean-up dates are scheduled for Nov. 22 and Jan. 17. Please put these dates on your calendar now.

Thanks much.

Christ in the Womb October 19, 2014/The Word Made Flesh October 17-18, 2015

October 19 Bulletin
The Word was made Flesh . . . Following Baby Jesus in the womb
31 Weeks
Mother’s body produces as much as 50% more blood and body fluids during pregnancy to meet Baby’s needs. Enlarging Baby pushes on mother’s pelvic veins, and blood flow in the lower part of her body is partially blocked. This pushes fluid into her legs and feet, causing swelling. Mother may be a bit (or very) uncomfortable, but Baby is being fed and kept warm.
Baby’s approximate due date: December 25, 2014

-------------------

The Word Made Flesh for October 17-18, 2015
Our little girl is growing, pushing on veins, causing Mommy's feet to swell. But this is normal for this stage of the pregnancy. John Chapter 16 tells us that like the pain of the Apostles losing Christ, the pain of pregnancy will soon be replaced with the joy of a new soul in the world. Baby's due date is still December 25, 2015.

Meeting Monday, October 20

I would appreciate the Deputy Grand Knight and Financial Secretary to be there at 6pm. Please let me know if you have any Candidates desirous of entry into the 1st Degree, otherwise the 1st Degree is canceled and I'll just do a technical review with the DGK and FS.

Liturgy Workshop

Dear Ministry Volunteers:

On Saturday, October 25, Fr. Steve and the Liturgy Commission would like to invite you to a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the liturgy and be able to have your questions answered regarding the what, why and how of Liturgy. We invite you to the Liturgy Workshop entitled: “The Hour that Never Passes”. It will run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. A light breakfast will be served from 8:30 am.

This workshop is the culmination of our adult faith formation series on the Mass which has been going on for several weeks through the bulletin inserts on the Parts of the Mass.

In this Workshop too, Fr. Steve will take us to the church and walk us through the Mass so that we can understand the connections of each part of the Mass but also the proper disposition and actions needed to welcome and promote the Mystery into which we enter in the Eucharist.

What songs do we sing? Who prays during the Eucharistic Prayer? How do we proclaim the Word? What does Prayer of the Faithful mean? How do our gestures and positions signify the unity that the Lord asks us to have? Why and how do I need to hold the cup reverently? What do the silent moments mean in the Mass?

These are just some questions that this workshop may answer for you so that when we gather again for the Liturgy, we are able to participate with full consciousness, intentionally and actively.

We strongly recommend that you take some time to learn more about the source and summit of our Catholic life.

Here is a little testimonial from Tim Crimmins, Pastoral Council co-liaison for Liturgy Commission and Chair of St. Vincent de Paul:

“The liturgy workshop in 2013 was very valuable to me as a Catholic. I had always taken part in the Eucharistic prayer as an observer, listening but not following. After attending the workshop, I felt like I was a participant in this vital part of our Catholic mass. I encourage everyone to attend in 2014.”

For logistical purposes (materials and refreshments) please register by responding to this email or send an email to Pia.

A win and a loss

The open house was not a success, the only people to come were my family and the 8th Grade Language Arts teacher from St. Clare's, so no recruits, and unless I hear about recruits, instead of a first degree I'll want to do a technical review of the 1st degree with Ken and Phil. If we do get a candidate, I would request that the sponsor take on the role of Chancellor in the degree.

But on the plus side- we have 18 Essay Contest Entries! Essays will be scanned in and e-mailed to judges, save for the judge who requested paper, and I'll give them to him Sunday. From what I have read so far, I'm excited about the quality of essays we have received.

Next contest is coming- Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest. We'll discuss that at the meeting, but I'd like to make it wide open, not just St. Clare's school but also St. John Fisher School, the RE kids, children at St. Elizabeth Hungary, and anybody else you can think of. Officially open for ages 5 to 14.

Watch this video

This is a bit of advertisement, but I was recently asked, what is our vision as a Council? This video is my vision as well as Matthew Kelly's. I want to see a church, not a museum, when my son is grown and my grandchildren are baptised. And I think, this vision, is possible. We are still very much in the early stages- but I'd like to see us buy books for Christmas 2016 for all three of our parishes. It will take fundraising. it will take more recruiting. It will take us becoming Dynamic, effective Catholic Men. I will be showing this video at the next meeting after the 1st Degree. If possible, I will show this video at our Open House on Wednesday Night.

Continuing Columbus Day Activities

Open House- 6 to 8 pm, St. Clare's Parish Hall

1st Degree 6pm October 20th GK, Chan, DGK, Warden, and Financial Secretary are required.

General Meeting 7pm October 20th.

Christ in the Womb October 12, 2014/ The Word Made Flesh October 10-11, 2015

October 12 Bulletin
The Word was made Flesh . . . Following Baby Jesus in the womb
7 months
Baby weighs about 3 pounds.
Baby is usually quite active during pregnancy. Still have 10 Weeks
to go and mother’s body feels like it’s running out of room as
Baby grows under mother’s ribs. Still, along with increased amniotic fluid,
Baby continues to get larger.

Baby’s approximate due date: December 25, 2014

----------------------

The Word Made Flesh for October 10-11, 2015.

Psalm 139 tells us that our bodies are wonderfully made, that it is God knitting us together in the womb. Our little girl is 7 months along now, growing so large that she's beginning to outgrow her mother's womb- but she still has 10 weeks to go. Her due date is the Birthday of Our Lord, December 25, 2015

SVDP needs help

From Tim Crimmins:

Jeanne Donaldson has announced her retirement from St. Clare SVDP. She will be staying with us through the end of the year. I want to start by thanking Jeanne for all that she has done for the community. Jeanne has many roles within our organization and she leaves big shoes to fill. I’ve attached a list of Jeanne’s jobs and I want to ask everyone to take a hard look at them and identify areas where you may be able to help out. There are lots of opportunities for people who are not able to be on call but who still want to help out. The critical areas of need are food purchasing roles which need to be filled ASAP. It would also be great if someone could apprentice under Jean as the turkey/ham coordinator this Christmas. Please let me know where you are able to help out.

Jobs to fill, beginning now or in January 2015: (can be filled by different individuals)

From Jeanne:

1. Purchase fridge food (weekly): Check the fridge for eggs, margarine, apples, potatoes, frozen OJ. (Hot dogs or ground turkey “chubs” can also be purchased there if you feel they are needed). Restock at Winco. You can get a check from the treasurer, buy a Winco gift card and use it, replace as needed. Save grocery receipts to submit to treasurer monthly.

2. Purchase at Grocers Outlet: As needed (monthly?), buy 2 kinds of rice, beans in bags, canned fruits and veggies. Same reimbursement process as above, and save purchase receipts.

3.Maintain oncall schedule: Copy the new oncall schedule onto a monthly calendar every 2 months (names on the appropriate dates). Email to our volunteers. Put a Master list of the same into the St Clare SVDP box.

4. On call: someone to fill my day on the calendar beginning in January.

Please contact Jeanne directly at Jeanne3d@gmail.com

#Synod14 – In Which Justice & Mercy Try Dating for a Bit

I was going to put this link on my personal blog, but I think we at St. Clare's, St. John Fisher, and St. Elizabeth of Hungary are struggling with the balance between Mercy and Justice right now.  Or at least I know that I am, as Grand Knight of our little Council.

#Synod14 – In Which Justice & Mercy Try Dating for a Bit:

Mercy never comes in the form of a lie.  Mercy brings the truth, the whole tragic, hopeful, glorious truth.  It’s not mercy to tell you that your sins aren’t sins.  It’s mercy to tell you that yes, your sins are killing you and taking others down in the process, but look: There is hope.  Divine hope.  Eternal hope.  You don’t have to be a slave to this. You don’t have to be condemned.

Divine justice doesn’t seek condemnation, it seeks reparation: How can I make whole what has been broken? How can I save this one who is so very close to being eternally lost?

Forgiveness starts with repentance and truth.  The Forgiveness of Christ is the process by which Divine Justice and Divine Mercy meet.  Let us, as Knights, committed to the Holy Virtue of Charity, be generous with our forgiveness and use it to diffuse the anger that comes from being too just or too merciful.

Volunteers needed for Columbus Day Weekend Membership Drive

I still need two volunteers to help out at the Saturday Night 5pm Mass, for the membership drive. Also, if you have time Wednesday, October 15 to help with our open house 6pm-8pm, please let me know.

GK Ted Seeber

Prayer Request

Christ in the Womb October 5, 2014/The Word Made Flesh October 3-4, 2015

October 5 Bulletin
The Word was made Flesh . . . Following Baby Jesus in the womb
29 Weeks
Baby weighs about 2 ¼ pounds. Crown-to-rump length is almost 10 ½ inches. Total Baby length is 16 ½ inches. A couple of interesting factors about birth weight have been identified: Boys weigh more than girls. Birth weight of an infant increases with additional pregnancies or number of babies delivered. These are general statements and don’t apply to everyone, but they consistently reflect birth trends. The average Baby’s birth weight at full term is 7 to 7 ½ pounds.
Baby’s approximate due date: December 25, 2014

--------------------

Psalm 127 tells us that children are a blessing. Our little girl is up to about 2¼ pounds. She's growing fast- but not as fast as Our Lord did at this stage; already the differences between boys and girls are beginning by 29 weeks; boy babies grow faster in the womb. Her due date is the Birthday of Our Lord, December 25, 2015
