St. Clare Church - Easter Holy Week Phone Call Tree

Hello Brother Knights,

Our Council has volunteered to help St. Clare Parish in calling parishioners with an invitation to Easter Triduum services. Fr. Don, Laurie, and St. Clare staff have review the list of Parishioners and have identify those parishioners who are inactive, not currently attending or are new to make up the call list. The call list is about 400 families.

They would like us if possible to make the calls from the St. Clare offices. They have 5 phone lines, more phones than lines, which may help us connect with parishioners if the caller ID is St. Clare. Available office hours would be Mon-Thur, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Fri-Sat, Noon to 8:00 PM. These are the hours when most of the staff would be gone. Phone list would be hard copy rather than digital files, security concerns. The call would begin April 5th. A call script to help the Knights will be provided.

If you would like to volunteer for this event, please contact Don Mey:
Email = dmey1951@gmail.com
Cell = 434-429-9881

A big thank you to Richard DiGregorio and James Morgan who have already volunteered!

Mass of the Annunciation and Consecration of Russia to the Imacculate

Greetings Brother Knights and Friends,

I received the news that Archbishop Sample will celebrate the Abbey Mass for the Solemnity of the Annunciation and will Consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary March 25th @ 8:00 am in union with Pope Francis and the bishops (it will probably take about 1 1/2 hours, total). All of the seminary will also be there, so the Mass is likely to be crowded--it would be a good idea to arrive extra early to get a parking place and a seat.
If you wish to pray along, this Mass will be live streamed:

Blessings,
Bill Seeber

Knights Deliver Aid to Ukraine

From the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council
On March 1, a semi-truck filled with humanitarian aid collected by Knights in Poland made its way to Lviv in western Ukraine. The supplies delivered to Ukraine — including medicine, generators, sleeping bags, warm clothing and other necessities — were collected by K of C councils throughout Poland and brought to regional sites in Radom, Kraków and Tomaszów Lubelski. The items were then shipped and loaded onto a single 18-wheeler — dubbed the “Solidarity Shuttle” — in Tomaszów Lubelski and departed for Lviv Feb. 28. With the support of people around the world, Knights of Poland and Ukraine continue to expand their aid by the hour.

Update on Shannon Seeber March 11

Here's the update on Shannon's Brain Surgery with scheduling as we know now.  Today, Friday March 11, she had her COVID-19 test, we are expecting it will be negative, but to preserve it as being negative, Shannon will isolate at home this weekend.  Time change is this weekend to add to the stress. Ted and Christopher will be at 8:30 am Mass at St. Clare's on Sunday.  Sunday evening at 5 Ted will drive Shannon up to St. Vincent's for her final pre-op MRI.  Bright and early Monday morning, Ted will have Shannon back up to St. Vincent's by 5am, for surgery starting at 7:30.  Christopher will have to get himself off to school.  Ted has asked for the Mass intentions on Monday and Friday Daily Mass to be for Shannon, and he will be at the 8:30 AM Mass.  Surgery is due to take 4-5 hours, the operating theater is scheduled for 4.5.  Ted will be back at St. Vincent's by 11 just in case, plus they have his phone number.

Shannon will be at St. Vincent's at least through Thursday, maybe Friday, but is allowed only one designated visitor a day due to COVID-19 restrictions.  She'll be in ICU the first two days, then moved to a normal room for recovery.  Ted will be at the hospital daily 10am-4pm, then go home to make dinner for Christopher.  On Tuesday is Knights of Columbus meeting at 7pm in the fireside room and Ted and Christopher will be there.  Ted is taking the entire week off.

Updates will go out to the Supporting Shannon facebook group, then copied to Catholic Daughters, the SIS mailing list and the Knights blog.  A few select friends will be e-mailed separately.  It's amazing how much support we're getting for this- a school and an orphanage in Pakistan are praying for her, and we've gotten messages from all over the United States, many friends we haven't heard from in ages.

Life is Messy by Matthew Kelly (Current Knights Discussion Book - Part 2)

Hello Brother Knights,

At our next KofC meeting on Tuesday, March 15th we will be continuing our discussion on our book by Matthew Kelly Life is Messy with Part 2. Part 2 of the book will be starting with the chapter Dante's truth through the chapter If I had a dollar for every time. For those that do not have the book, you may still be able to pick one up at Church or contact me directly to have a copy delivered to you.

This book is about putting our lives back together, and allowing ourselves to be put back together, when life doesn’t turn out as we expected it to. Based on his own heart-wrenching personal journals, Matthew Kelly shares how the worst three years of his life affected him, by exploring this question: Can someone who has been broken be healed and become more beautiful and more lovable than ever before?

Here are some possible discussion questions that have been recommended for you to think on as you read the second part:

Question 1: In the sections “Dante’s Truth,” and “Dark Night of the Soul,” Matthew Kelly lists some signs that we are in the dark woods or experiencing the dark night of the soul. p.26-28
  • Have you ever gone through long periods of excruciating suffering? How did you find your way out of it?
  • What conversation are you avoiding? How is that avoidance creating a mess in your life? How can you move toward having that conversation?
Question 2: Matthew Kelly says that most of us participate in evil every day.  “The most common and insidious example is gossip.  It is perhaps the everyday evil that has been most normalized.” p.42
  • Have you ever done anything that has negatively altered the course of your life or someone else’s?
  • Discuss or reflect on the times when you have been either the perpetrator or victim of gossip.
Question 3: “We are dehumanizing a whole civilization by desensitizing people to evil. When you dehumanize people, it changes the way they treat each other.”
  • Talk about the virtues and vices of social media discussed in the “If I had a dollar for every time…” section, p.46-50.
  • Does social media advance or detract from a person’s ultimate happiness?
  • What role should we allow social media to play in our lives and in society?

Agenda for our March 15th meeting will be sent out at a later time closer to the meeting date.

Thank you all,
Marc Gregoire

Special Olympics Day at Jersey Mike's

In the past, we've had two of our brother Knights compete as Special Olympians, and we've sold tootsie rolls at one time early on in our council's history.  This event, March 30th, is an easier way to get dinner for your family and support our local Special Olympics Team.

Jersey Mike's Month of Giving
for Special Olympics Oregon Athletes is HERE!

Get in the spirit of giving with Jersey Mike’s Month of Giving! This year, for the first time, Jersey Mike’s owners and operators are excited to unite behind the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games and the Special Olympics State Programs.

During the month of March, customers can make a donation at any Jersey Mike’s restaurant to help 40 local Team Oregon athletes and the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games, held June 5-12, in Orlando, Fla.
Day of Giving
The Month of Giving campaign will culminate with Jersey Mike’s “Day of Giving” on Wednesday, March 30, when local Jersey Mike’s restaurants will give 100 percent of the day’s sales – not just profit – to the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games and the Special Olympics State Programs.
Be sure to mark your calendars and follow #TeamOregon on social for more Jersey Mike’s deals and athlete meet and greet opportunities.

We hope to see you there!
