Please update your contact info with Supreme

My brothers, we will soon be starting new initiatives as a council to make sure, in charity, that every one of our brothers is contacted every month.

Please help us do this by going to The Supreme Contact Info Website.  You will need to know your last address on your last copy of Columbia Magazine to use this form, for verification of identity.

Alternatively, you can just e-mail Phil Jarvis your updated contact information, and he'll update member management for you.

Successful St. John Fisher Breakfast

We grossed $314.50 and netted $168.50.   SJF Youth Group's share is $84.25.

James Michael Morgan Took Pictures

Notes From Breakfast Captain Ken Paulsen:
The twin Weber boys (Michael & ? who belong to Mary Jane) did an excellent job on pancakes.  Margaret and Mary and Holly were great servers.  I don't know their last names, but Holly is from Our Lady of the Lake.  Mary also prepared the fruit dishes while Margaret set tables.  Early on, we were assisted by Michael & ? - two young men who helped us set up.  I think there were 7 youth who helped us - and they did a lot of work!
Of course, thanks goes too to Deacon Scott who was the first to show up and the last to leave.  But he knows where everything is and goes - Still we need to take some more of the load off him.  Mike Devlin was the eggman and did an excellent job, Paul Pompili managed the pancakes and greeting customers as the pancake man.  James Morgan orchestrated table preparation and cleaning.  Marc Gregoire prepared and organized all beverages.  Michael Chau, Ted Seeber with son Christopher took on some serving and clean up jobs.  And of course Phil Jarvis took care of the money after helping with setup.  I hope that's everyone....
We had some left over supplies - the youth group will use the 4 dozen eggs on their retreat Thursday according to Mary Jane.  We divided up some beverages at the end of clean up.  I put the butter back in my freezer - hopefully it will be good for our next breakfast.  We were long on sausages (about 50) and have lots of paper towels.  So I'll try to balance things out a bit better next time.  Based on plate count, we served 99 people.  (62 + 37).  I think we need a second cast iron skillet even though Mike kept ahead of the crowd with the eggs.  But that's hard to do.

Potluck this Tuesday

Thank you to all for your great service this morning at the SJF pancake breakfast.

Sister Dorothy, (Pastoral Assoc. at SJF) is asking for a few Knights to help this Tuesday evening.  There is a potluck before a reconciliation service.  Potluck at 6 pm, Confessions at 7 pm.  She would like some help in setting up the potluck (5:45 pm?) and then cleaning up at the end.

If you can help, please contact her (dradoli@johnfisher.org) or 503-244-4945.

God bless.

Deacon Scott

The supreme law of the Church - Catholic Sentinel - Portland, OR

A very good article from Archbishop Sample appeared last week in the Catholic Sentinel, that very much mirrors what our Grand Knight said at his first meeting.  Great minds do think alike, thanks GK Scott for urging us to be Men of God and not just Nice.

Pancake Breakfast at St. John Fisher this Sunday

Dear Brothers,
This Sunday, July 24, we are joining with the Youth Ministry to host a pancake breakfast at St. John Fisher.  Thank you to all who volunteered to help.  If you did not sign up, you can still show up and join us in this community activity for us as Knights and for the parish.  We'll begin with setup about 8 am and finish a little after 1 pm.  Come for all or some of the time, and bring your family for a good meal.

God bless.

Deacon Scott

Ted Forgot- taking notes and participating is hard.

There were two things I wanted to mention last night as a Trustee, and failed to, so I'm adding them to the blog.

The first is that by our bylaws, while as our new Grand Knight said, we are defenders of the faith, partisan politics is banned in our council meetings.  This election year is growing quite contentious, and we need a safe place to come together as men away from partisan politics.  I have asked our new Advocate to be strict with this rule during this election season.

Second is name badges.  For the sake of our new Pastor at St. Clare's learning everybody's names, and for the sake of recruitment, please wear your name badges to church.  I would especially like to see name badges on as many Knights as possible for our upcoming events on Sunday, July 24th, whether you plan to attend the 8:30am installation of Fr. Don at St. Clare's, or are working at the Pancake Breakfast at St. John Fisher, wear your badge!  Be visible as a Knight.

GK Remarks - I was not a knight a year ago- so quick rise, I will be a benevolent leader.  Vision for our Knights- we are men of God.  It is good to hear men pray together.  I was at the seminary, and I was thinking that men praying together is very powerful.

In a conversation about a month and a half ago, talking to a Dad, the Parent's group is fellowship without the churchy stuff.  As Knights we have the churchy stuff, we are known as men of God.

The second is that we serve the Lord as Knights- in service to the Church and in defense of the Knights.  Read the magazine- you will see how we are servants of the church.

The Third is we are in Defense of the Faith.  The faith is under attack wherever we see.  We are not partisan- we agree with both and disagree with both.  My vision is to have us seen as Knights boldly in our community- in the fullness of being Catholic.

I liken it to ordination.  We are not the only servants, but we lead and we call everybody else into that.

Please get in your service hours by the 10th.  Every good Catholic needs to do service.  We need to be generous, we need to study, we need to be involved in Liturgical Ministries.  People need to see us there at Mass- we need to be involved in the service activities in our Church.  We need to build up the community.  If anybody has problems with the form, contact Ted Seeber for Tech Support.

St. JF Baby Bottle Drive

I'm happy to report that today, since Mother's Day, the Knights of Columbus / St. John Fisher's baby bottle drive has (so far) donated $937.36 to the Mother and Child Education Center (formerly Birthright).  That doesn't include the baby bottles I dropped off today!  I believe we'll top $1000 or more - as there are still about 20 baby bottles not accounted for.  I'm very proud of the generosity for this important charity and wish I could extend the warm thanks to you that they always extend to me when they receive more bottles.

I should mention too, that there are always young mothers in the waiting room at M&C Center when I visit.  It's heart-warming to know that we're doing something to help them - some of whom are surely desperate for help.

Pancake Breakfast

Dear Brother Knights,
We will be holding a pancake breakfast at St. John Fisher on July 24.  As in the past, we will be serving after both Sunday Masses (9 am and 11 am).

We'll split the proceeds between the Knights and the SJF Youth Ministry (who will serve along side us).

If you can help on that day, please let me know.  We can use help with setup and cooking (8 am and again 11 am), serving (10 am and/or 12 noon).

God bless.

-Deacon Scott

Happy 4th of July!

Dear Brothers,
Happy 4th of July!  As Knights, we celebrate the birth of this great nation, a nation of freedom, with liberty and justice for all.

As we celebrate today, I encourage you, personally or in a gathering, recite the pledge of allegiance.

And take a moment to pray:
       Thank you, God, for our country and our great freedoms;
       May God bless our nation with prosperity and peace;
May God guide our leaders and all peoples to walk as his people and give glory to his name.

-Deacon Scott Kolbet

June Volunteer Hours are due

Too many people had errors with the PDF form, so Click Here for the New Monthly Reporting Form: http://informationr.us/JohnClareCouncilMonthlyReporting.html. This has now been updated to send to GK Deacon Scott. Hopefully it will work in all modern browsers. Remember, volunteer hours reported for our council for the previous month, are due by the 10th of each month, so that Deacon Scott has time to fill out the forms.
