Volunteers Needed- Breakfasts coming up- February 4 & 11

Well, it's that time again- time to volunteer for the upcoming breakfasts!  We're going to try to save some shopping money and do two back-to-back- February 4 @ St. Clare's and February 11 at SJF.

Saturday, Feb 3, 6pm-8pm:  Usually only need an hour for this, more hands the better, setup of tables and basic kitchen setup, load of all the equipment from the closet, load of groceries!

Sunday, Feb 4, 7am-10:30am:  Shift 1.  Check with Ted Seeber if you're volunteering for a specific job, start times may be later depending on the job, you might actually be instructed to go to 8:30am Mass, then do the Judas Shuffle to let us know when Eucharist is.

Sunday, Feb 4, 10:30-2pm Shift 2, includes cleanup after about 12:15.  Can be the shorter of the two shifts, even though it doesn't look like it.

Contact Ted Seeber, seebert42@gmail.com or 503-318-1508, to volunteer for Feb 3&4.

Sunday Feb 11, 7:30am-2pm:  St. John Fisher, we do things a bit differently- volunteer for whatever you can in this time period. Contact Mike Devlin, mdevprop@hotmail.com to volunteer.

2024 March For Life In Washington D.C.

Your State Deputy Ken Anderson attended the annual March for Life in Washington D.C. this past weekend.  His fiancée Anastasia Paulsen, accompanied by her chaperone grandpa also attended.

The weather was extremely cold, but sacrifice merits greater success.  Many great speakers including Frank Pavone and Bishop Strickland provided motivation.

Way too icy up here on Marquam Hill Saturday Morning.  Landlord wants her out by Monday Evening.

Here is the plan:  Sunday afternoon, after church and after the day warms up, we will meet at Lynn's at 1pm and get whatever small boxes we can, and dismantle furniture.

Monday Evening at 4pm will be the big move with the Uhaul.

This schedule may still slip, based on weather, so call Ted Seeber at 503-318-1508 so that he has your phone number and availability for either of these times.

Online Only Meeting Tuesday, January 16

Due to uncertain and inclement weather this weekend, our next meeting will be online only.  Our GK is still without power on Sunday evening so agenda information may not be posted.

Ted will have the conference call room open by 6:45 on Tuesday.

For the same reason, and for safety's sake, the emergency volunteer opportunity of moving Lynn Vanek is put off until January 20 at 10 am.

Help needed moving- anybody with trucks available on short notice this week?

Here’s some more info on the parishioner that is needing some help:

Lynn Vanek, an active parishioner, is looking for some help with moving out of her apartment.  She’s moving most of her stuff to a storage unit.  Her apartment is on Capitol Highway a few blocks south of where it crosses I-5, I don’t know where the storage unit is, I assume fairly close by.   Lynn is in her upper 60s and needing some help, I think she has to be out of the apartment around Jan. 20.  She has lots of stuff boxed up and ready to go and would ideally like to get some of it moved sooner.  It’s just a one bedroom apartment, so there isn’t lots of stuff, but there are several boxes and some furniture.  She could use some help disassembling some furniture also.

           Fr. Don

Contact Ted Seeber, seebert42@gmail.com or 503-318-1508 if you can help.   With the weather events happening in the next 6-7 days, it will be hard, but I'd suggest this would be a fine use for your volunteering time on MLK day, Monday, January 15th.  Ted will update this post as we get more information from Lynn- so the links following this paragraph may change.

UPDATE:   Monday canceled for the safety of volunteers, we will try again for Saturday Jan 20th at 10 am (this is the last day we can do this, so if anybody has any time earlier in the week, Ted will put them in touch with Lynn- but be safe).

Repost: Phil Jarvis Funeral info

  From Donna:

I am now officially a widow.  My husband of 67 years , Phil, passed away Wednesday 12/13/23 at about noon of a massive stroke after lingering, unconscious, for four days in the hospital.

After talking to both the funeral home (Youngs in Tigard) and the church (St. Juan Diego Church in Hillsboro , click to map) it was decided to have the funeral on Saturday, January 6th at 10 am with a reception at the church following.  The graveside ceremony won't be until one p.m. because it's in Tigard at the St. Anthony cemetery on Gaarde St., click link to map.
