Novena to St. Dymphna Day 3

St. Dymphna Novena - Day 3

For Charity

God of love, Thou art the most perfect Being, and Creator of all that is good and beautiful. Through the intercession of St. Dymphna, who in her youth loved Thee above all creatures and for Thy sake loved her neighbor as herself, as the image and likeness of Thee, as the price of the Blood of Jesus and as co-heir of heaven, be pleased to help us by Thy powerful grace, that we may faithfully fulfill the two great commandments of charity not only in word, but in action and in truth. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be five times

St. Dymphna Novena - Day 4

For Piety

God, Our Creator and Supreme Master, St. Dymphna served Thee with great zeal even in her childhood, by hearing Thy word with delight, by assisting at Holy Mass with fervent reverence, and by receiving Holy Communion from the hand of St. Gerebran with tender devotion. Through her intercession we beg Thee to grant us the same virtue of piety so that, having honored Thee during this life as our Creator, we may possess Thee hereafter as our final reward. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be five times

Novena to Dymphna, Day 2

St. Dymphna Novena - Day 2

For Hope

Almighty and infinitely good God, Thou hast promised eternal salvation to those who obey Thy commandments and make zealous use of Thy graces. Through the intercession of St. Dymphna, who fled from the danger of sin by leaving the palace of her father, and who, eager to gain eternal salvation, fled to Belgium to live in poverty, we beg Thee to grant that we also, who are striving for eternal happiness, may overcome all obstacles in the way of virtue and may attain eternal salvation. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be five times

Our next Novena: St. Dymphna

St. Dymphna

We don’t know very much about Saint Dymphna. A lot of the history that we do know comes from oral tradition and written stories. But what we do know is that she was born in the 7th century in Ireland to a beautiful devout Christian mother, and to a pagan father who was also an Irish Chief.

When her mother died, her father became immensely depressed, and Saint Dymphna also suffered during that time. Her father looked for a replacement wife, and he was told by his advisors to pursue his daughter as his new wife.

Driven mad by his depression, he made advances on his daughter. Saint Dymphna fled to Belgium with her confessor and took refuge in a Chapel near the present day site of Gheel. Her father’s spies, however, tracked her down and her father found begged Dymphna to return to Ireland with him.

Dymphna refused, and her father decapitated her. At the time, she was only 15 years old.  I chose her in this time of coronavirus in honor of all the children being abused due to the lockdown.

For mental illness caused by the lockdown, let us pray this Novena April 29-May 7 at 3pm, after a Chaplet of Divine Mercy.  I will return to my “2 days per day” posting for the next 9 days.

St. Dymphna Novena Prayers
St. Dymphna Novena - Day 1
For Faith
O God, Source of our salvation, in the midst of a pagan people, Thou didst enlighten St. Dymphna by the light of the true faith, which she professed under the guidance of her holy confessor, Gerebran, with such constance that she suffered martyrdom. Through the intercession of these two saints, we beg Thee to strengthen the faith which Thou hast given us, so that by wisely subjecting our souls to Thy Supreme Authority, and by faithfully conforming our lives according to our faith, we may honor Thee with our whole heart and soul until the hour of our death. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be five times

Update from Duane Morris

Hello Brothers,

Here is a followup email with pictures from the distribution of the food that was purchased by your donation.

Vivat Jesus,
Duane Morris

-----------------------

It is interesting to see how different countries have interpreted the rules differently.  In the states this would be a lack of physical distancing, even with the masks, but apparently in the Philippines as long as everybody is wearing a mask it is ok.  The amount our council gave is roughly equivalent to what we spend on our breakfasts at St. Clare's feeding 175 people.  I have no idea how many people this food was distributed to.

My brothers, the Food For Families Program needs your help

If, since July 1, 2019 you participated in either the St. Vincent De Paul, St. Andre Bessette, or any other "feed people" program for the needy, please e-mail your hours to Gene.Andres@comcast.net .  We need to show 100 hours of involvement to file our food for families report.

Donation to the Philippines, Results

As you saw in the April 21, 2020 Meeting notes, we decided last night to send a $220 donation to the Philippines, while we worked out exactly how to do our Food For Families donation locally.  Reference was made to a letter put out by the state Council and 4th Degree Master Duane Morris about how his wife was trapped in a relatively poverty stricken area of the Philippines, and how the people were struggling under severe curfew and quarantines to even get enough food to survive.  Well, this must be the quickest response I've ever seen.  The following are the two e-mails from Duane that we have received- the initial one asking for funds, with pictures, and the second one with the response that food will be delivered today, halfway around the world, also with pictures!
----------------------------------------
Worthy Brothers,

The impact of the Coronavirus Pandemic is world wide. My wife was in the Philippines visiting her family when the pandemic started and is stuck there until the Government imposed Lock Down is over. The Lock Down in the Philippines is much more strict than what we have seen here in the United States. There are now checkpoints at each town and curfew hours in which you can be outside the house. Any one caught outside after curfew can be arrested and detained. The open markets and small grocery stores are only open limited hours and announced yesterday they may even be closed for a two week period. My wife and I are trying to organize a relief effort to help people in the community that cannot afford groceries before the two week lock down. If your council would like to donate towards this relief effort, please send your donation to me, so that I can send the funds to her to purchase and distribute the groceries. Any amount would help. Please see some of the pictures of the bagging and distribution of groceries from this past weekend.

If there are any questions about this relief effort, please contact me at dlmorri@gmail.com.

And the second e-mail from Duane, after our donation:
---------------------------------------------
Hello Brothers,

My wife went and purchased the food using the donation that you have sent and will distribute them later today (tomorrow in the Philippines 15 hours ahead of us). Here are some pictures.

It is time for a pro-life Novena: St Gianna

St Gianna Beretta Molla is an excellent choice for our next Novena for the cure of coronavirus.  She knew the cancer could kill her, and yet she embraced suffering for the sake of her youngest child.

Please pray this Novena after your daily 3pm Chaplet of Divine Mercy for all suffering from the virus.

    https://saintgianna.org/novena.htm

Novena To Obtain Graces Through Saint Gianna Beretta Molla

God, our Father, You have granted to Your church the gift of Gianna Beretta Molla. In her youth she lovingly sought You and drew other young people to You, involving them, through apostolic witness and Catholic Action, in the care of the sick and aged, to help and comfort them.

We thank You for the gift of this young woman, so deeply committed to You. Through her example grant us the grace to consecrate our lives to Your service, for the joy of our brothers and sisters.

    Glory be …

Jesus, Redeemer of mankind, You called Saint Gianna to exercise the medical profession as a mission for the comfort of bodies and souls. In her suffering fellow men and in the little ones, deprived of all support, she saw You.

We thank You for having revealed Yourself to this servant as “one who serves” and who soothes the sufferings of men. Treasuring her example may we become generous Christians at the service of our brothers and sisters, especially those with whom You deign to share Your Cross.

    Glory be…

God, Sanctifying Spirit, who love the Church as Your Bride, You poured into the heart of Saint Gianna a share of Your Love so that she could radiate it in her family, and thus cooperate with You in the wonderful plan of creation, and give life to new children who could know and love You.

We thank You for this model wife and, through her encouraging witness, we beg You to grant to our families the serene and Christian presence of mothers committed to transform their homes into cenacles of faith and love, rich with generous activity and sanctifying service.

    Glory be…

O God, Creator and lover of mankind, You were close to Saint Gianna when, affected by illness, she was in the painful dilemma of choosing between her own life and the life of the child whom she was carrying in herself, a gift long-awaited. Trusting You alone, and aware of Your Commandment to respect human life, Gianna found the courage to do her duty as a mother and to say “yes” to the new life of her baby, generously sacrificing her own. Through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Jesus, and after the example of Gianna, inspire all mothers to welcome with love the sparkle of new life. Grant us the grace we are praying for …………. and the joy to find an inspiration in Saint Gianna who, as a model spouse and mother, after the example of Christ, gave up her life for the life of others.

    Hail Mary…

Tomorrow is Divine Mercy Sunday- so it is Day 9 of the Novena

I am going to wait to start a new Novena Monday- as there will be plenty of online chaplets tomorrow to watch.  I'll add links to the top of this post as I get them.

      But for today:
The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy Novena
      Ninth Day:
Today bring to Me SOULS WHO HAVE BECOME LUKEWARM,* and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. These souls wound My Heart most painfully. My soul suffered the most dreadful loathing in the Garden of Olives because of lukewarm souls. They were the reason I cried out: 'Father, take this cup away from Me, if it be Your will.' For them, the last hope of salvation is to run to My mercy.

Most compassionate Jesus, You are Compassion Itself. I bring lukewarm souls into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart. In this fire of Your pure love, let these tepid souls, who, like corpses, filled You with such deep loathing, be once again set aflame. O Most Compassionate Jesus, exercise the omnipotence of Your mercy and draw them into the very ardor of Your love, and bestow upon them the gift of holy love, for nothing is beyond Your power.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon lukewarm souls who are nonetheless enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Father of Mercy, I beg You by the bitter Passion of Your Son and by His three-hour agony on the Cross: Let them, too, glorify the abyss of Your mercy. Amen.

*To understand who are the souls designated for this day, and who in the Diary are called 'lukewarm,' but are also compared to ice and to corpses, we would do well to take note of the definition that the Savior Himself gave to them when speaking to St. Faustina about them on one occasion: There are souls who thwart My efforts (1682). Souls without love or devotion, souls full of egoism and selfishness, proud and arrogant souls full of deceit and hypocrisy, lukewarm souls who have just enough warmth to keep themselves alive: My Heart cannot bear this. All the graces that I pour out upon them flow off them as off the face of a rock. I cannot stand them because they are neither good nor bad (1702).

      ‐-------
And From the Pray More Novenas version, day 10 for Divine Mercy Sunday:

Theodore - Peace be with you!

      Happy Feast of Divine Mercy!

We hope that this novena has brought you to rely more and more on Jesus' Divine Mercy!

We have one last prayer that we like to do after each novena. Please pray with us!

Here are the prayers for today:

Dear Lord Jesus, I have specific requests that may only partially fill the infinite needs and desires that are in my heart. I ask that You answer me not only for those requests but also for a greater reliance on You to satisfy the needs and desires that You have given me.

Please grant the prayers of all those who prayed this novena with me. Bless them with Your love and make them holy!

May I seek You with a sincere heart knowing that it will profit me nothing if I gain the whole world yet lose my soul.

So, help me to see Your good and gracious purpose in all my trials. Help me to see Your blessings in every day and help me to love You more.

Thank You for everything, Lord Jesus!

      Amen.

      SHARE THE DIVINE MERCY NOVENA!

NEW Plenary Indulgence authorized by Vatican...

As you know, through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, our sins are forgiven.  However, a punishment remains that is resolved in Purgatory if not here on earth.  The penance given during confession remits part of that temporal punishment... but not all.  An analogy:  If I bat a baseball through my neighbor's window, he may forgive me, but the broken window is still broken.  The window needs to be fixed.
Sooo.... Our Catholic Faith provides a remedy -through Partial and Plenary (complete) Indulgences.  And here's a NEW, EASY Plenary Indulgence available to be gained Every Day:
      https://www.thedivinemercy.org/articles/vatican-grants-emergency-plenary-indulgence-divine-mercy-chaplet
      New Plenary Indulgence
Because of the pandemic, anyone who, with “the will to fulfil the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer according to the Holy Father's intentions), as soon as possible,” recites the Divine Mercy Chaplet with the intention “to implore from Almighty God the end of the epidemic, relief for those who are afflicted and eternal salvation for those whom the Lord has called to Himself,” can receive a plenary indulgence each day.

Fr. Don Guttmann is offering confession on Saturdays at St. Clare at 4pm

Divine Mercy Novena Days 8 & 9: the Church Suffering and the Lukewarm

Reminder- a promise from Christ of an indulgence is granted to anybody who gets confession and at least spiritual communion or better yet the Eucharist (let me know if you know where!) on Divine Mercy Sunday. Fr. Don will be offering confession at 4pm at St. Clare's.

The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy Novena

      Eighth Day:

Today bring to Me THE SOULS WHO ARE DETAINED IN PURGATORY, and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. Let the torrents of My Blood cool down their scorching flames. All these souls are greatly loved by Me. They are making retribution to My justice. It is in your power to bring them relief. Draw all the indulgences from the treasury of My Church and offer them on their behalf. Oh, if you only knew the torments they suffer, you would continually offer for them the alms of the spirit and pay off their debt to My justice.

Most Merciful Jesus, You Yourself have said that You desire mercy; so I bring into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls in Purgatory, souls who are very dear to You, and yet, who must make retribution to Your justice. May the streams of Blood and Water which gushed forth from Your Heart put out the flames of Purgatory, that there, too, the power of Your mercy may be celebrated.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls suffering in Purgatory, who are enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. I beg You, by the sorrowful Passion of Jesus Your Son, and by all the bitterness with which His most sacred Soul was flooded: Manifest Your mercy to the souls who are under Your just scrutiny. Look upon them in no other way but only through the Wounds of Jesus, Your dearly beloved Son; for we firmly believe that there is no limit to Your goodness and compassion. Amen.

Novena of Divine Mercy, days 7 & 8 For Ourselves and for the poor souls in Purgatory

      Supreme's version is at:

I ask all Knights to join in this Novena.  For my part, I will be posting this daily, with both today's and tomorrow's.

I am using the version from https://www.thedivinemercy.org/message/devotions/novena

Brother Ken Paulsen also suggests this version:
      https://www.praymorenovenas.com/how-to-pray-the-divine-mercy-chaplet/

The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy Novena
      Seventh Day:
Today bring to Me THE SOULS WHO ESPECIALLY VENERATE AND GLORIFY MY MERCY,* and immerse them in My mercy. These souls sorrowed most over my Passion and entered most deeply into My spirit. They are living images of My Compassionate Heart. These souls will shine with a special brightness in the next life. Not one of them will go into the fire of hell. I shall particularly defend each one of them at the hour of death.

Most Merciful Jesus, whose Heart is Love Itself, receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who particularly extol and venerate the greatness of Your mercy. These souls are mighty with the very power of God Himself. In the midst of all afflictions and adversities they go forward, confident of Your mercy; and united to You, O Jesus, they carry all mankind on their shoulders. These souls will not be judged severely, but Your mercy will embrace them as they depart from this life.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls who glorify and venerate Your greatest attribute, that of Your fathomless mercy, and who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. These souls are a living Gospel; their hands are full of deeds of mercy, and their hearts, overflowing with joy, sing a canticle of mercy to You, O Most High! I beg You O God:

Show them Your mercy according to the hope and trust they have placed in You. Let there be accomplished in them the promise of Jesus, who said to them that during their life, but especially at the hour of death, the souls who will venerate this fathomless mercy of His, He, Himself, will defend as His glory. Amen.

*The text leads one to conclude that in the first prayer directed to Jesus, Who is the Redeemer, it is "victim" souls and contemplatives that are being prayed for; those persons, that is, that voluntarily offered themselves to God for the salvation of their neighbor (see Col 1:24; 2 Cor 4:12). This explains their close union with the Savior and the extraordinary efficacy that their invisible activity has for others. In the second prayer, directed to the Father from whom comes "every worthwhile gift and every genuine benefit," we recommend the "active" souls, who promote devotion to The Divine Mercy and exercise with it all the other works that lend themselves to the spiritual and material uplifting of their brethren.

The Chaplet of The Divine Mercy Novena

      Eighth Day:

Amen.
