You can tell how busy I'm getting by how far back in my e-mail I'm working on posting to my blogs.  http://event.on24.com/wcc/r/1277826/9AB181F32E9F1CC6BF4F43ABCEFE83C6?mode=login&email=seebert42@gmail.com">October 23rd, Supreme held a training for recruiters
and as your membership chairman I attended.  The link above goes to the recording of the training.  I found it extremely interesting, and from it got a couple of ideas we will be talking about at the next meeting November 21st

State Council Steps Up for Guadalupe Shrine

I have great news to share with everyone
Brother Bob Kish (past state deputy) and the other state officers voted to donate $2,850 towards the Oregon state KofC Shrine.
This donation pays off the remaining balance that we still needed to raise. We now have everything that was planned, funded

Bob Kish, and all other state officers
Thank you very much helping to complete this project
God bless
Doug Klein

Just in time for the dedication tomorrow at 3pm at the Grotto.  Hope to see a few of you there.

Breakfast Results

Gross $460.31
Expenses  $147.31
Mass 1 net $210
Mass 2 profit $103
Total Net of $313

Donation: $156.50 to SJF Youth Group, who helped us with the Breakfast.

Thank you to our volunters Marc Gregoire, Evan Crader, Mike Devlin, Mike O' Phelan, Tom Owens, Michael Chau, Christopher Seeber, Ted Seeber, Jim VanDomelen, Paul Pompili, and of course, Breakfast Captain Ken Paulsen

Specific Kudos:

I think the breakfast was very successful on several levels.  Cash, Camaraderie and Community benefits.  The food was especially well prepared... Thanks for taking on the eggs Mike.  We got many compliments - in fact, one man donated an additional $20 after breakfast as a "tip".
I will be preparing an inventory spreadsheet for our next (March) breakfast supplies.  I suggest that we forego buying meatless sausage because it is so expensive and there weren't many takers... (I pushed it at tables.)  I believe one of the two packages I bought was left over - but didn't see it after the event.   Overall, there wasn't a lot of food left over and so I think our purchasing list is close to what we need - provided that the customer count stays about the same.  Based on plate count, I think we served about 140 today.

 Knights Urge Prayer Before Election

Sunday Oct 30

Novena will be addressed to Mary, the Immaculate Conception, Patroness of the U.S.

Dear Brother Knight,  In preparation for Election Day, the Knights of Columbus is calling its members and all the faithful to join together in a novena to the Holy Trinity through the maternal intercession of the Blessed Mother, under her title of the Immaculate Conception, patroness of the United States. On the nine days leading up to Election Day - beginning on Sunday, Oct. 30 and concluding onMonday, Nov. 7 - please join me and Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori in invoking the intercession of Mary, the Immaculate Conception, for our country. In 1791, America's first bishop, John Carroll, entrusted the country to the Blessed Mother, and in 1846 the bishops of the United States reaffirmed that dedication, declaring Mary as patroness of the United States under her title of the Immaculate Conception. I ask that you promote this national novena widely through the ranks of our brother Knights and their families, as well as at parishes in consultation with your local pastor. Thank you, Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson

Dear Fellow Knights,

As some of you may know, Michael Chau and I have been helping a poor Vietnamese friend who arrived in Oregon this summer with his 4 children ages 5 to 16. After being homeless for several months they have found a 3 bedroom duplex in Hillsboro with the aid of Community Action. The dad, Dan Mac, is looking for work and getting his children settled in school. He will be getting some basic furniture from Community Warehouse tomorrowbut is in great need of a number of things listed below. If you have any of these you would care to donate please bring them to the St. John Fisher pancake breakfast Sunday. Michael Chau and I will be helping at 10:30. You could also contact Tom Owens at 503.789.7313 to arrange to donate any items below. Thanks much.

What some of us missed while working the breakfast

I don't know about any of you, but I never thought I'd hear the word abortion, or euthanasia, in a homily at St. Clare's. Since the bulletin had a reminder that Fr. Don's homilies are online, I thought I'd post this message from our Chaplain in honor of Respect Life Sunday. The following should work in any HTML5 browser, or you can click here

A different view of Christopher Columbus

As we prepare to celebrate Columbus Day Weekend, let us keep in mind the more traditional view of this man's faith, as opposed to the libels recently added to his myths in the last few decades. Those libels are related to a certain popular racism against Spain, and come from rather doubtful sources.

And do please wear your John Clare Council badges this weekend to Church, and help after Mass to pass out brochures. Ted has badge access to our closet at St. Clare's at 4pm on Saturday, so there is time to get brochures to St. John Fisher as well if they are needed.

Next volunteer request

This weekend is Columbus Day weekend, our traditional recruitment time!

If you go to St. Clare's, please inform seebert42@gmail.com which Mass you will be going to, and wear at least your name badge and if you have it, any clothing that has the Knights of Columbus symbol on it.

If you go to St. John Fisher, please inform GK Deacon Scott scoitik18@yahoo.com , and inform him which Mass you will be going to.

I will be asking for access to our closet for 4pm Saturday, so that I can get brochures and The Return Library out.  I can run brochures over to SJF before going back to St. Clare's for Saturday 5pm Mass, I believe that Saturday Evening Mass at SJF is at 4:30.

Breakfast outcome

Outcomes from St. Clare Breakfast:
Gross $605
Net $469
Donation $235

Note from Fr. Don:
You fed us well, thank you!
          Fr. Don

Also, Kudos from Pia- she loved the pancakes, and will try to find the forks before March.

Thank you to all who worked so hard on this breakfast.  I'll be trying hard next weekend to find us some help!

Ted
