Oregon March for Life

when
May 18, 2024 // 2:30 PM
PACIFIC DAYLIGHT TIME
where
CAPITOL STEPS
900 COURT ST NE, SALEM, OREGON

For more information, click the link below.

Oregon March for Life was moved from January to May this year.  Perhaps. with the more moderate weather in May, there will be a greater number of participants.  My observation, in recent years, has been that the Knights of Columbus are not very visible at these events.   Let us do our part to improve that this year by attending the March on May 18th.  There will be reserved parking available in the Capitol Mall Parking Structure.  See the website (link) for details.

Group Watch Party- Financial Services Webinar from the Pacific Agency

Ted Seeber will hold a group watch party in the Clare Room of the Parish office at St. Clare's on Wednesday, April 24th at 6:45pm.  (Please enter through rear door of office just off the office parking lot) There will be snacks and a simple signup sheet.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the financial benefits of being a Knight of Columbus- how to sign up for them, and how to use them.

We aren't just a Family organization run by fathers- we are not just a charitable organization.  Charity begins at home, and we are also an insurance company insuring the future of our families.

This counts towards our Star Council goals, so also invite other men from the parish older than age 18 to come find out about this side of the Knights- many a member in the past has joined for the insurance.

For those attending the Zoom meeting from home, please email your confirmation of attendance to Don Mey, GK@kofc15485.org

More information on Challenger Baseball

The Challenger Board has put out this schedule.  Ted Seeber will also update our council calendar.  Would be great to see you at one or more of the games cheering these special needs kids on,

You haven't seen alternative baseball until you've seen a father pushing a wheelchair around the bases to Tokyo Drift into Home.

All games are subject to weather cancelation the day of, contact seebert42@gmail.com to double check the day of the game, we're usually told by 9am.  Games start with Little League at 10:30, and Senior League at Noon, except for the Jamboree and One Big Game days.  Jamboree schedule is different based on how many teams travel from other areas of the state to join us, One Big Game will have all the Little League players on one field and all the Senior League players on the other.

Ted already has commitments of volunteers for the big games.  Free lunch comes with three of these games- Troutdale, Tillamook, and wherever we end up playing the One Big Game at the end of the season on June 29th.

If you have kids or grandkids in Little League, and have any suggestions for team sponsorship for the 5/18 or 6/29 games, please contact the board at od4challengerinfo@yahoo.com

Call for Volunteers: Wine and Cheese or Breakfast at St. John Fisher

Calling volunteers!  Help is needed for the Wine and Cheese after 4:30 pm Mass on April 27 and for the Pancake Breakfast on April 28 after the 9am and 11am Mass at St. John Fisher.  These are good opportunities for service to community, and increases the visibility of our council at St. John Fisher.

Setup on the breakfast will begin at 7am, start serving at 10.  Ted will be there for coffee and taking credit cards- so we might get some more business.

For both these opportunities, e-mail Mike Devlin at mdevprop@hotmail.com

CUF Degree Exemplification Scheduled April 13, 6pm, at St. Clare's

If you are around, please attend 5pm Youth Mass at St. Clare's on Saturday, and stick around for about a half hour afterwards to welcome our new members Bill & Tommy into the Knights!

If you haven't had a chance to see a post-Covid exemplification, I highly recommend this chance.  Remember that the CUF degree is no longer secret- invite your families, especially your teenage children and grandchildren, to come learn what our order is about.   Boys today, can volunteer with us and will be the Knights of tomorrow.

Breakfast Results!

Thank you to all who volunteered at the extremely busy breakfast at St. Clare's on Divine Mercy Sunday.  I have the following statistics and lessons learned to report.

First of all- the money.
We took in $803 in cash, $35 in Venmo, $95 in credit card donations, for a gross take of $933.00

Ted's business passed $94.09 on to the bank account, $.91 was eaten in credit card processing fees.  This is a small enough amount that Information-R-Us will continue to offer credit card processing with the next breakfast- better signage will be created before then.

Total expenses, including credit card processing, was $298.45, for a net of $634.55.

We lost track of number of breakfasts served- at least 206.  Ted was expecting less than 200 and only put 200 plates out.  We also let the restocking cart run out of silverware during the 10:45 Mass- Ted will be asking for a volunteer next breakfast at St. Clare's to take over overseeing coffee and busing tables for both masses.

On shopping, Ken Paulsen did most of it and should have done all of it; Ted tried to use Christopher's Fred Meyer discount on the sausages, but we ended up spending about $1.80 per bag over advertised price at Winco.  We bought 600 sausages, had 3 bags left which we will use for next breakfast (had one bag from a previous breakfast for a total of 650- so the proper amount going forward at St. Clare's is 500 sausages).  We purchased 480 eggs and used 384, the remainder 96 eggs were broken down into 8 cartons and donated to SVDP.   Since we buy in 5 dozen boxes- and used 32 dozen, recommended buy from here on out will be 35 dozen for St. Clare's breakfasts.

Thank you greatly to Roger Hebling, Christopher Seeber, James Michael Morgan, Rich Digregorio and Shannon Seeber for helping Ted set up.

Scott Young flipped pancakes for us again and mixed up 4 tubs of batter- I did not hear if we ran out or not but we only had a couple ziplock bags of pancakes left over.

Paul Pommpili, Gene Andres, Michael Chau and Daniel Salomon did a good job on the serving line.

Mike O'Phelan did his normal great job on the eggs.

Dan and Jazlyn were on coffee and orange juice, while Tom Owens and Oanh Nugyen did a good job resetting tables between the masses.

Don Mey and Mike Devlin kept up nicely on the dishes and helped with cleanup at the end, along with Rich Digregorio.

Thank you all for your hard work!  This was a large and stressful breakfast.  But it resulted in 2 new candidates for the Knights, whom we will see this Saturday at 5pm Mass at St. Clare's for a CUF degree!

Blessing of the Rose Festival and Special Planting Honoring Fr. Richard and the St. John Fisher Community

Below is a clipping from this past week’s St John Fisher's bulletin:

Please plan to attend.  This is a good opportunity for the Knights to be visible and show our support for Father Richard and the St. John Fisher Community.

Easter Egg Hunt was a great success

I did not get any pictures of the crowd- was way too busy shouting "0-5 to my left, 6-12 to my right" and trying to spot kids trying to start early!  4500 eggs hidden, nearly 1000 kids showed up. We had 3 Knights volunteer, and 25 other volunteers from the school stuffing and hiding eggs.

These photos were taken a few minutes before Mass let out, nearly 30 people showed up only for the egg hunt (hope they went to Mass later).

Ted Seeber donated 100 saints medals for lucky kids- but with 4500 eggs, I only saw 3 or four who claimed they found Saints Medals.
