Our Council at the St. Clare's Lenten Faith Fair ( Faith Fair Canceled due to issues beyond our control, posters will be up at C&D) will be promoting the 40-40-40 challenge.  40 Cans for Lent I'm sure you're already aware of, and will be giving.  40 articles of clothing, to Sears Shelter, St. Andre Bessette, or even just Goodwill will help you thin out your closet. Supreme is promoting a third 40 for us to do- #40BucksForLent - To help Christian Refugees from the Middle East. Click on the link to donate.

Socks for Sears Shelter

If you forgot to bring your socks to the meeting and you go to St. Clare's, the donation box will be at the Lenten Faith Fair in Between Mass.  Please drop off donations at the Parish Office porch.

For all lovers of our Lord- Eucharistic Adoration 24 hours

Looks like several local parishes are offering this, including St. Clare's, St. John Fisher, and St. Anthony's.  We still need help from the Knights at St. Clare's and St. John Fisher.  Please sign up for an hour in the 11pm-6am time slot, for these are the hardest to fill, and it is our duty as Knights of Columbus to help fill these time slots.

Born Again? Faith Alone?

Another Lighthouse CD donated to our Library by Ted Seeber. In this Audio CD, Ray Stephen gives us an interesting talk on two common doctrines of Evangelical Protestants- and tells us where their reasoning has gone wrong, from a Catholic point of view.

Becoming the Best Version of Yourself

This Audio CD is part of the Lighthouse Collection.  It is a talk by Matthew Kelly, a part of Dynamic Catholic's Decision Point Program for young people contemplating the Sacrament of Confirmation.  It was selected by Lighthouse for wider publication. Introducing a rather interesting theological idea, Matthew Kelly puts forth the idea that Catholicism is intended by Christ and the Holy Spirit to help you become the best version of yourself.  Putting forth the concept that we have a God of Second Chances (and third chances, and fourth chances), every choice in life is presented as an opportunity to become the best YOU that you can possibly be.  Very good for the person who finds themselves often making wrong choices.

Catholicism Episodes #1 and #2

Catholicism DVD Series by Rev. Robert E. Barron Friday night I viewed Episodes #1 and #2 of this 10 part series - and I recommend it very highly.  In a powerful documentary style, Rev. Barron narrates the teachings of Jesus with images and scenes on location in the Holy Land and other locations. Part 1 - Amazed and Afraid - Makes the case for Jesus claiming that He was either who He said He was - or was a madman.  As He said, either we are with Him or against Him - there's no neutral ground.  It presents a compelling case that we're either all in, or all out.  (50 min.) Part 2 - Happy are we: The Teachings of Jesus - shows through the teachings of Jesus such as the Beatitudes, Prodigal Son and His command to turn the other cheek, just what's expected of us, including provocative, non-violent witness to our faith.  (53 min.)

CONGRATULATIONS! to Knights enrolled in Full Membership

Congratulations to Brothers Dennis M Durnin, Deacon Scott Kolbet and Paul A. Pompili who were Knighted as full Members in the Knights of Columbus, having participated in the second and third degree ceremonies at St. Francis Church in Sherwood, Oregon today.  Together with Brothers Ted Seeber and Phil Jarvis, I was honored to witness this ceremony and am proud of our new Full Member Brothers for having completed these important steps in their membership. Just a little reminder

From the Weird Al of Catholicism, something to share with the teens in your life.

This Friday- Family Movie Date Night!

Bring your loved ones, and your spouse, to learn about marriage from two true experts at  the topic.  Millie Dover will be giving us the wisdom of how to stay married until death do us part.  And in a movie staring Burt Lancaster based on a screenplay by St. John Paul the Great, the wise Jeweler guides two generations of couples through marriage in The Jeweler Shop. Friday, February 12, 6:30pm at St. Clare's Parish Hall.  Hope to see you all there.

January Service Hours Reporting is due

Right Click Here  for an easy to fill out form that e-mails the Grand Knight.  Chrome users, download and open in Adobe to get it to work right. Suggestion from Tom on Service Hours: Bring it up at the next meeting for discussion and get a show of hands of how many are willing to respond with  their volunteer hours per month or at least respond to you with no hours. We need to demonstrate how the collective monthly hours will be used for PR and communications beyond just turning hours in to the state and national Knights.  If  some oppose it let’s find out why. Let’s collect a list of those who are willing to do it. To become a habit Knights will probably need to do it for at least 3 months. I (and perhaps the other 2 trustees) could make phone or email contact with Knights who miss the meeting and have failed to turn in hours to do so. If all or almost all present agree to do it, we need to get written reminders out at least a week before each m...

Ted Seeber getting Ambitious again

Image
And this time, it's too big for our council- but our council can contribute. As we learned in our last meeting, our dear State Chaplain, Fr. Theo Lange, has been named by Pope Francis to be one of the Missionaries of Mercy- priests given special faculties and a special mission to bring the Sacarcament of Confession to sinners who would normally have to travel to the Bishop or even to the Vatican to have their sins absolved. Browsing facebook the other day, I saw a story about the Diocese of Lafeyette "Spiritual Care Unit"- a converted ambulance with a confessional in the back. I am in no position, as you well know, to financially handle this at this time.  But there are people who are.  And so I've started a GoFundMe page .  All I ask is that you go to this page- and share the link.  If the spirit wills it and we get just $1/Knight in Oregon, I'll transfer the funds to the State Knights of Columbus Charities to buy a suitable vehicle to convert.

The Future Depends On Love

Since the February Movie Night is two days before Valentine's, we're taking a bit of a pivot and concentrating on the Sacrament of Marriage. In 1939, a young seminarian by the name of Karol Wojtyla joined an underground theater group to keep alive the culture of Poland in the face of Nazi invasion.  We know him today as St. John Paul The Great.  He wrote a play contemplating the meaning of the Sarcrament of Matrimony. In 1989, that play was translated and turned into an English language movie staring Burt Lancaster.
