The Holiness of a Knight

Brothers, there comes a time in the life of every Knight when he must ask himself a question deeper than why he joined, how many meetings he attended, or how much good he accomplished: Am I becoming a holy man? Not an impressive man. Not an important man. Not merely a good Catholic man. A holy man. Because one day, brothers, all of this will end. There will be a final meeting. A final Mass. A final time we put on the regalia of a Knight. Someone else will sit in our chair. Someone else will do the work we once thought could not be done without us. And eventually, our name will be spoken mostly in memory. When that day comes, very few people will remember how many meetings we attended. But our wives will remember how we loved them. Our children will remember whether we had time for them. Our grandchildren will remember whether our faces lit up when they entered the room. And our brother Knights will remember whether, when life became difficult, we stood beside them. That is where holine...

Carpool to Canby for District Officer Training

Ted is organizing Carpooling to the district meeting in Canby on August 15th.  Meet at St Clare's Office Parking Lot by 7:15am.  Expect to return to St Clare's by 1pm. Announcement from Brothers In The Spirit: My brothers all In part due to a scheduling conflict with the District Meeting Next week in Canby, Week 3 will be delayed until August 22nd. The topic will be finding grace in our local parish and diocese regardless of what is going on in the rest of the world. 11 days ago, Archbishop Sample covered exactly this topic on his podcast in response to the autoexcommunication of the SSPX.  I realize it's a big ask, in this day and age of short attention spans, to set aside 48 minutes in our busy lives to listen to a podcast.   But I urge you to do it anyway, sometime before August 22nd, and join us in our discussion on that day, two weeks from today.   https://youtu.be/kOagN59BQz0? si=4yqKfesMVp_-Mctl Ted

Invitation to Week One: “Black-Pilling Week One—Satanic Masterpiece On Both Sides of the Spectrum”

Honored Clergy and My Brothers All, I want to invite you to the first gathering in a four-week class on a difficult but deeply important topic: what happens when people begin to lose faith in religion because of the sins, failures, scandals, hypocrisy, or abuses of religious leadership. This first week is working under the title “Black-Pilling Week One—Satanic Masterpiece On Both Sides of the Spectrum.” The title is intentionally stark, because the experience itself can feel stark: a person sees real evil, real betrayal, or real corruption among those who claim to speak for God, and the temptation is to conclude that the whole thing is rotten. Some react by hardening into cynicism. Others react by defending the institution so fiercely that they can no longer hear the wounded. Both responses can pull us away from truth, charity, repentance, and hope.    If you have not watched it yet, the video at https://www.youtube.com/live/DhAZZGECvtc is what led me to tackle th...

The Brothers in the Spirit tackle Black Pilling

Brothers In the Spirit is a new spiritual outreach for Men at St. Clare's and St. John Fisher, an outgrowth of the ACTS retreat and our council's COR program.  We've been meeting in the Clare Room weekly, drop ins and drop outs welcome.  The schedule is Saturday mornings, 9am-10:30am, but we try to have coffee ready and the Mary's Garden door open by 8:45am. David Villigas will not be able to attend many of our sessions in August, and has invited Ted Seeber to lead our discussions.    For Our August small group series, we will be discussing a Crisis Magazine video,  "Deliver Us from Black-Pilling" . Please watch the video at https://www.youtube.com/live/DhAZZGECvtc .  Due to the elephant-in-the-room topic that has attacked the Church for at least the last 30 years, we will also have copies of Bishop Barron’s https://media.wordonfire.org/ebooks/Letter-to-a-Suffering-Church.pdf available as our Knights of Columbus Council purchased several a number of yea...
