Update on our Brother Knights in Ukraine

Ray Prom
State Deputy
Oregon Knights of Columbus

Brother Knights of Oregon, Our Polish Brothers have been busy, and this weekend are in the process of collecting medical supplies and other necessities, to be driven into Ukraine Monday morning, and delivered to the city of Lviv.  They have collection sites in various cities throughout Poland.  But their efforts will not be enough. Knowing that they will need help from around the Order, Supreme has set up a Ukrainian Relief Fund.  Here is the link:

The Supreme Council will match, dollar for dollar, all donations up to $500,000. My understanding is that the Polish State Council will then help provide assistance to the Ukrainians, with the monies donated through this fund. Individuals and council can go to this link, and donate to your Brother Knights in need. The Oregon State Council will be sending some money also, through our Disaster Relief Fund, and we will be sending it through Supreme's Ukrainian Relief Fund also. Please do what you can to help. 100% of the money sent through the Ukrainian Relief Fund will be donated to those in need.

And keep the prayers coming.

Knights of Columbus in the Ukraine

Ray Prom
State Deputy
Oregon Knights of Columbus

Today (Thursday) at 1:30 PM, I called the State Deputy from Poland.  He had been communicating to me through Facebook messenger just prior. He had just got off the phone with the State Deputy from Ukraine.  (Yes, we have Knights of Columbus in the Ukraine.) The Ukrainian State Deputy contacted the Polish State Deputy to let him know that there were some Brother Knights from the Ukraine, fleeing the battles, and going with their families hurriedly into neighboring Poland. He asked that assistance be given to the Ukrainian Knights and their families. When I asked what Oregon could do, if we could send money, the Polish State Deputy passed on the request from the Ukrainian State Deputy. He asked that we pray. ALL of us, every day, for the victims of the war.  So I want to relay his message to all of you, to all our Brother Knights in Oregon, and their families. Please pray for a quick end to the war in the Ukraine. For most of us, the war is a distant and non-personal event. But when you hear that our Brother Knights are fleeing for their lives and their families lives, when the possibility is great that there may be Ukrainian Knights of Columbus who will be casualties of the war, it becomes much more personal. In times like these, the least we can do is pray. In times like these, the MOST we can do is pray. Pray for Peace in the Ukraine.

Thank you!
Vivat Jesus

Life is Messy by Matthew Kelly (New Knights Discussion Book)

Hello Brother Knights,

At our next KofC meeting on Tuesday, February 15th we will be starting our discussion on our second book by Matthew Kelly Life is Messy. We will be dividing the book into 6 Parts (~25 pages each) to review over our next 6 meetings. Part 1 of the book will be starting with the first chapter The Human dilemma through the chapter When nothing makes sense. Copies of the book have been delivered to most of the Knights (I apologize if I missed anyone) and extra copies have been provided to both St. Clare and St. John Fisher to place at the back of the Church. For those that do not have the book, you can pick one up at Church or contact me directly to have a copy delivered to you..

This book is about putting our lives back together, and allowing ourselves to be put back together, when life doesn’t turn out as we expected it to. Based on his own heart-wrenching personal journals, Matthew Kelly shares how the worst three years of his life affected him, by exploring this question: Can someone who has been broken be healed and become more beautiful and more lovable than ever before?

Here are some possible discussion questions that have been recommended for you to think on as you read the first part:

Question 1: Can someone who has been broken be healed and become more beautiful and more lovable than before? What do you think?

Question 2: Who in your life has been the gold dust you needed to put you back together and made you even stronger and more beautiful?

Question 3: “We all end up living unexpected lives.…the unexpected is either a curse or an opportunity.” p.12,13
  • Can you remember a time when something seemed very wrong at the time, but turned out to be a blessing in the end? Consider sharing this experience with others.
  • What do you consider an ideal life for yourself? Can you accept that your actual life may never become your ideal life?

Meeting Link and Agenda for our virtual February 15th meeting will be sent out at a later time closer to the meeting date.

Thank you all,
Marc Gregoire
