What did you do as a Knight in the past year?

Supreme and your Council Leadership want to know!  There's a new form to fill out, called the Individual Fraternal Survey Worksheet.  We need these returned, by e-mail or on paper, by January 21 so that we can compile the answers onto our council report by January 21st.

We have numbers for anything that was a true Council Event.  But you do much more as a Knight.  Inspired by your Knighthood, you gather friends and family into a variety of charitable causes.    You give money, you visit the sick, you serve at Mass in various forms of ministries.  You are the backbone of the church- what Matthew Kelly calls the 7.5% who do 90% of the work.  This is the time to brag about that!  Doing so helps our order keep our tax exempt status as a 501c8 organization.

Click here to go to the PDF form that you can print out, or fill out online.  Some browsers are incapable of filling it out online, but you can always print it out and bring it to our next meeting on Tuesday, January 21st at 7pm.

Next Breakfast

We have a few dates before March to have a breakfast at SJF.  Contact Mike Devlin to help us decide on workable dates.

Ted-
Here are the Sundays suggested by the school and parish for Knights breakfast activites

January-  12 and 19
Feb.  -  9
March-  1, 8,15

Please poll the group as to if anyone has a conflict for any particular Sunday.  I will only be unavailable on Jan. 12th.

My suggestion would be to take the Feb. 9th and either the March 8 or 15th for a total of two events.  I believe the Jan. 19th weekend is MLK holiday.  Also, better chance the new parish center will be opened by Feb. or March than during January.
Respectfully,
Mike Devlin

Thank you to all who volunteered for the Breakfast

This one turned out to be one of our most successful ever!

$713 Gross, $605 Net, $303 to St Clares.

Thank you to Lynn Vanek for the donation of spoons to the spoon drawer in the school that enabled us to use silverware.

And thank you for everybody who showed up, especially our pancake flipper Scott Young.  Scott is a member of our parent council 3591 in Tigard, though he is a parishioner of St. John Fisher, and he has worked extremely hard for both councils over the past 8 weeks- cooking for 5 breakfasts in that 8 week period.

Volunteers Needed For Breakfast This Weekend

There is still a need for volunteers to help with the pancake breakfast at St Clare this weekend.  Help is needed for all shifts—Saturday 6pm to 8pm, Sunday 7:00am to 10:30am or 10:30am to 2pm.  Please reply if you will be available to help with one, all or a portion of any of the shifts.  If you only have an hour or two I’m sure that will be helpful.
    gene.andres@comcast.net

Remember the time change, and volunteer for the Breakfast!

Do not forget to fall back, perhaps for the next to the last time, Saturday night, turn your clocks back an hour.  Sleep in that extra hour, and then volunteer for the Breakfast at St. Clare's!

Let Gene Andres know which shift (or custom hours) you wish to work:  8:00am-10:30 am or 10:30am-2pm.  The more people who volunteer for the later shift, the earlier we will be finished!

    Quo Vadis Movie Night

    Worthy Brothers All,

Assembly 3219 in Beaverton, Oregon will be hosting a public event to promote our initiative for Our Lady, Help of Persecuted Christians. This movie from 1951 takes place during the Roman Empire and features the persecution of many early Christians. It is not too graphic. The intention of this movie night is to help us remember the sufferings that many in our world undergo even today simply for their belief in Christ. Let us pray for the religious freedom of all.

    The details are here:
    Saturday November 9th
    6:30pm in the school cafeteria
    Holy Trinity Catholic Church/School
    13715 Walker Rd,
    Beaverton, OR 97005

For those who haven't been to Holy Trinity before, the cafeteria is around the campus in the back. It will be a little down a slope.

6pm-8pm on Saturday, November 2nd (come early, go to Mass, see if Fr. Don plays his sax for All Saint's day!)

    10:30am-cleanup Sunday November 3rd.

Please contact Gene Andres  to volunteer

    New Recruitment contest

We finally got our raffle prizes to our winners, but since we had only two people give us interest cards, we could only give away two out of the three prizes.

In keeping with the discussion at the last meeting, I am proud to announce the Knights Recruitment Contest!  The man who gets the most new recruits to their 1st Degree by the Sherwood Degrees on February 15th, will get this nice shinny $50 gift card for Safeway.  Good luck, and get recruiting!

Fr. Ricky Manalo,CsP at St. Clare's

    From: Pia de Leon <Pia@saintclarechurch.org>

    Hello Everyone,

Yesterday a wonderful surprise proposition came to us from Fr. Ricky Manalo,CsP, an Oregon Catholic Press composer, a much sought-after international speaker on Liturgy and a Paulist priest, to speak on the liturgy since he will already be in Portland on Nov 5.  This is a last minute offer which I think is gift from God.  This speaker is as dynamic as he is as a composer.  His love for the Catholic liturgy has brought him to many parts of the world both teaching and learning at the same time about people’s practices and experiences of the Eucharist.
This is what he would like to share with us.  Through his presentation entitled “Do you see what I see?”, Liturgy through the Traditional, Modern and Postmodern Perspectives. he would like to discuss the intersection of these world views in the celebration of the Liturgy.
Please plan to attend this event at St. Clare on November 5 at 6:30 pm in the Parish Hall.
    Thank you so much,

    used laptop needed

    Hi Ted,
I have a friend, whom I'm also representative payee for, who is on SSD because of mental and physical handicaps who is requesting a donated laptop computer to use. Could you please send out an announcement to see if any Knights or their families/friends may have such a laptop they would be willing to donate. If so if they contact me I would be happy to pick it up and take it the man making the request.

For all who do announcements in St. Clare's Bulletin

Deadlines for St. Clare's bulletin have changed.  Ted usually does announcements for the Knights, but you should all be aware of the new deadlines:
      Dear Bulletin Contributor,
I am writing to let you know that the deadline for submissions to the parish bulletin has changed.  Catholic Printery in Seattle is no longer printing our bulletins as their owner retired and transferred the bulletin printing services to Liturgical Publications, Inc. (LPi).  The new printer is located in Las Vegas, so the shipping timeframe is longer.   Therefore, I now have to send the completed bulletin to the printer by Monday at 11am...rather than Wednesday at 11am.  So the two lost work days will need to be made up during the previous week.

This means I need bulletin items/notice of flyers by 8am on Wednesdays for TWO Sundays ahead.

For example, if you want to have a bulletin item in the Oct. 20 bulletin, I need your item by 8am on Wednesday, Oct. 9 (tomorrow morning).
For Oct. 27, I need the item by Wednesday, Oct. 16.
For Nov. 3, I need the item by Wednesday, Oct. 23.
      Etc., etc., etc. …

However, if you let me know that you are planning a flyer by the Wednesday deadline, I really don’t need it until 8am on Monday morning as long as it is in a pdf format, with a ½ inch white border and printer ready with no editing required.

I know this is a BIG change for all of us as we will need to be planning way ahead of what we have been doing for so many years.  I will try to be as flexible as possible until we get used to it.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thank you for the good work you always do in keeping the parish bulletin full of interesting events, activities and information.

      With much gratitude,
      Laurie Zupsic

      Another successful Breakfast

Under the wise leadership of our Deputy Grand Knight Gene Andres, the breakfast at St. Clare's went off quite smoothly.  Thank you to all who volunteered.  Final results are:

      $515 Gross
      $358 Net
      $179 donated to St. Clare
$179 kept for our council (money needed to cover Delta Drive activities next weekend- we hope anyway).

Next Breakfast will be at SJF on October 20th

Ambassadors needed at St. Clare's this weekend

It's a Delta Drive- and one of the things that means is FAMILY.  We need 6 people at each Mass- two per door- to hand out Fr. McGivney Prayer Cards and to pick up response cards after Mass, as well as represent the Knights at Coffee and Donuts or the Wine and Cheese after the 5pm Mass.

So grab a spouse or a child (including grown "children"), and let me know which Mass you can attend- Saturday night at 5pm, Sunday morning at 8:30am, or Sunday morning at 10:45 am.

I know I've talked to some of you personally, but I have no definite commitments as of yet.  We need 9 families total- 3 at each Mass- so come on out and prove to the St. Clare community that we do not leave our families to volunteer, we lead our families to volunteer.

If the Fraternal Training button is not appearing, we suggest that you request your grand knight or financial secretary update your record with a primary email address. Volunteers Needed For Breakfast This Weekend

There is still a need for volunteers to help with the pancake breakfast at St Clare this weekend.  Help is especially needed for the first (Saturday 6pm to 8pm) and third (Sunday 10:30am to 2pm) shifts.  You can reply to me at gene.andres@comcast.net to let me know when you are available or just show-up.  Walk-ins are welcome!

All hands requested for Breakfast, and a change in our schedule

Please let Gene Andres (link in blog) know which of our normal breakfast shifts you are available to work.  He's organizing the volunteers this time.

After discussion with our Chaplain Fr. Don Gutmann, and taking the Delta Drive Training, we have chosen to move our Delta Drive out to October 12-13.  Please prayerfully consider attending at least one Mass at St. Clare's that weekend to help with the Delta Drive, which your Grand Knight, Ted Seeber will be leading.  Your duties with the delta drive will be to stand WITH YOUR FAMILY at a door of the church before Mass, handing out Fr. McGivney Prayer Cards, and at the same door after Mass, collecting Prospect Interest cards.  Those volunteering at the 10:45 Mass will also be asked to help collect all leftover materials from the pews after the last person has left Mass.

The reason for the change is that we simply don't have the manpower to do a breakfast on the same Sunday as a Delta Drive.  Reply to the blog e-mail if you can be at the 5pm, 8:30 am, or 10:45 am Mass on that weekend.  We need 9 families to volunteer for this, and when assigning doors, I will take into account the age of children.

      Ted Seeber, GK 15485

We are also going to be running a Delta Membership Drive that weekend.

Please volunteer by clicking on Gene Andres e-mail above.   Please consider volunteering WITH YOUR FAMILY for 4:30pm-8:30pm on Saturday.  I would like to have 2-3 FAMILIES volunteer to help with the Saturday Night Delta Drive and setup for the Breakfast.  Christopher and I will be there, as will my wife, Shannon.

Pass-downs from the District Deputy/State Deputy: A chance at higher honors with the Knights

The first three are for any who seek the honors of being a Third Degree Knight:

The Holy Family Council is holding an Admissions Degree, Formation Degree & Knighting Degree on October 12th starting at 12pm for the First Degree, Second Degree at 1pm, third degree at 2:10pm, then Gregorian Chant of the Rosary, Mass then a dinner.  Please see the attachment.
Council will pay for those attending the dinner.

If you already have your 1st Degree, and miss October 12, there are two more chances quickly approaching, and I'd be perfectly willing to accompany any member to them:

On December 7th, 2019 a 2nd and 3rd degree is scheduled at the Tigard Council (this is our parent council and the BEST DEGREE TEAM in the state).  Tom Hays will be the facilitator for these degree's.

On January 18th, 2020 a 2nd and 3rd degree is scheduled at the Corvallis Council.   David Keeling will be the facilitator for these degree's.

Finally, you may have heard the news about the breakdown of the contract and lawsuit between Supreme and a national website vendor UKnight.

Gentlemen- not sure if you have followed this lawsuit against the Knights by Uknight for breach of a verbal contract.  They were asking 100M, plus they alleged fraud as well.   The court awarded 500,000 for breach of verbal contract and through out the fraud allegations.

And more from the State Deputy

State Deputy Ron Boyce was on Mater Dei radio recenly.  You can find the replay here.

        Thursday, August 22, 2019

        From the State Deputy

        Brothers,

This is incredible opportunity to not only to listen to Monsignor Eduardo Chavez the world's most renowned expert on the Guadalupe apparitions, Sr. Juan Diego, and the role of Our Lady of Guadalupe in the New Evangelization.  We will also exclusively have access to the Relics of the Mexican Martyrs and the Supreme Icons. These relics and Icons are usually reserved for events like the Supreme Convention.

The State Council will need volunteers from Council members to make this a successful event.  We are going to need at least 50 members and/or families to be ushers, parking lot attendants, and security to help with the 2,000 people that we anticipate showing up for the Guadalupe Encounter. I am asking the Grand Knights and Financial Secretaries to talk with your council members and call or email me back with the number of men and their families who wish to not only help but enjoy this spectacular retreat.

This will also be a great opportunity to check off the Spiritual Reflection program that Supreme requires for Star Council and Columbian Award.

I attached the Guadalupe Encounter Flyer. Please give a copy to those who would like to volunteer and those who wish to attend. Thanks

        Vivat Jesus,

The Prayer to St Michael and the Sub Tuum Praesidum

Some of you have approached me about the use of the two prayers at the end of our meeting.  The Wikipedia Article on the subject is very good, and includes the fact that Pope Francis himself has recommended the Leonine prayers at this stage in Church history.

Having said that, I will put the alternate cards in my computer bag, and be sure to bring them to the next meeting.
