2015 Dues

To attempt to save money on mailings, I'm copying my 2015 billing letter here with some slight changes. We will only send paper bills (as a FIRST mailing) to those who do not pay their dues by January 19, 2015; our next meeting. From Ted Seeber, Grand Knight, 15485 To the members of John Clare Council 15485; Standard Dues is $35. As you are likely aware, our council is very small indeed- we appreciate your membership whether you are very active or rarely active, whether you are an Associate, Insurance, Honorary Life, or Disabled member. Normally, I'd assure you that we have enough in the bank to cover our obligations to Supreme and State, and while that is still true this year, there have been some changes in November you need to be aware of. On November 13, 2014, I was required to be at a meeting at St. Anthony’s in Tigard for the District, and the world shifted- or at least the mission of Knights in Oregon shifted. About three months before, I had received word of a ...

Twas the Knight Before Christmas

I hope you all enjoy this little poem and graphic sent along from the Arizona State Deputy. Twas the Knight Before Christmas Twas the Knight before Christmas, when all through the council chamber, Not a creature was stirring, not even a member. The blank Form 100’s were stacked by the fin sec with care, In hopes that the membership chairman soon would be there. The members were nestled all snug in their chairs, While visions of pancakes danced in their heads. And the officers in their jewels, and I ready to wrap my gavel, Had just settled our brains for a long meeting of babble. When out in the hall there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the podium to see what was the matter. Away to the door I flew like a flash, Tore open the handle and ran with a dash. The light on the floor of the long narrow hall Provided the vision of a man standing tall. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, But the membership chairman, with our pillars and candidates in the rear. The memb...

Fwd: Helping Fr Givney's Vision - Career Opportunity

Image
I think, given what little I know about the job, that the words "financially secure" are very key.  But for a man who really wants to be of service to families in time of need, I can think of no greater lay vocation in the Church. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: < Gabe.Kennedy@kofc.org > Date: Thu, Dec 18, 2014 at 10:37 AM Subject: Helping Fr Givney's Vision - Career Opportunity To: Dear Brother Knight, Due to the success and growth of the Knights of Columbus Insurance program, our agency is looking to add additional fraternal insurance advisors.  This opportunity may or may not be suited for you, but I am interviewing for candidates in this area and referrals are always welcome. The ideal candidate would be success oriented, financially secure, ambitious, ethical and a self-starter.  We offer a professional level income and full benefit package including non-contributory pension to the right man.  (Competitive commissions, performance ...

Christ in the Womb Series Christmas Catch Up 2014

Image
I have gotten busy this December, and since my 2015 "The Word Made Flesh" ended just before Advent, I thought I'd go ahead and post, as Paul Harvey would say, The Rest of the Story- the original set of 2014 by Mary and Nick Rigert. I'll be coming out with a single post of all The Word Made Flesh for 2015 blog and bulletin announcement posts after Christmas. November 30 Bulletin The Word was made Flesh . . . Following Baby Jesus in the womb 37 Weeks The maximum amount of amniotic fluid surrounds Baby now. In the Weeks to come, Baby continues to grow. However, some amniotic fluid is reabsorbed by mother’s body. This decreases the amount of fluid around Baby and the room in which he has to move. Mother may notice a difference of Baby movements. For some mothers, it may seem like Baby is not moving as much as he had been. Baby’s approximate due date: December 25, 2014 December 7 Bulletin The Word was made Flesh . . . Following Baby Jesus in the womb 3...

First _Building the Domestic Church_ movie night

Image
We had a very light crowd for the 2014 Christmas Party- only 9 of us, including wives. Only 5 Knights showed up. But there was one man and his son who showed up at 7pm after Basketball practice while waiting for his daughter to have her basketball practice, so we showed the movie anyway- I think the adults enjoyed it as much as the kids. Knight of the Year was James Michael Morgan, pictured. We got him a nice jacket, a pin, and as he's always bragging about being a Gourmet, a copy of _The Joy of Cooking_ by Julia Child. Family of the Year is Tom and Bonnie Owens, we got them a nice holiday centerpiece.

Busy weekend for the Knights

Or at least the start and the end of the weekend. I just realized I missed the bulletin announcement of the meeting. So here is what is happening this weekend for Knights of Columbus: Friday, December 12, 6pm - our Christmas Party Potluck and First _Building the Domestic Church_ movie night kicks off at St. Clare's Parish hall. Bring a dish to share, a canned good for SVDP, and blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals for the kids! The Lego Church will be there for kids who get bored with the movie, and we'll be giving away Knight of the Year and Family of the Year, so be there. Monday, December 15, 7pm: Council meeting. Agenda to follow in the next post on the blog, but highlights will be lessons learned from the first movie night, detailed description of how to get movie nights going in the roundtable parishes of St. John Fisher and St. Elizabeth of Hungary, and an update on future fundraising plans. In addition, please save us a stamp and pick up your 2015 dues billin...

Fwd: Health & Welfare Report 10 December 2014

From: Andrew Robinson < robinsoa@peak.org > Dear Brothers Please pray for a successful surgery and quick recover for FS of Council 2439 Ron Bernt. He will be going to  OHSU December 11th to have one of my vocal cords partially removed.  Apparently the two paralyzed vocal cords have restricted his airway to about 20-30 % of a normal airway and this is why it has been such a struggle for him to breathe.  By removing a portion of one vocal cord the doctor says he should improve 300%, it will still not be 100% of normal but a substantial improvement.   Continue to pray for Audene Nored, wife of Stan Nored our State Special Olympics Chairman. She has been battling brain cancer very hard these last 5 years but is now at home and on Hospice the last couple weeks.  Pray for Dick Paradis, long time FS from Corvallis 1785 and a past State Officer. After a successful heart valve replacement a few months ago and recovering nicely, it was recently discovered he has c...

Our Brother Knight asks for your help

As you all know, James Michael Morgan has been heading for a lung transplant over the last couple of years. Go to the blog and click on this link to help him out with medical expenses.

The root of the matter

In the Catholic Sentinel this week, Archbishop Sample begins trying to make up for 60 years of mixed catechesis on marriage and the family . This is the second of a series of article prompted by secular media reports of the synod and by the upcoming meeting in Philadelphia next fall, followed by part II of the Synod. It is also, I am convinced, why he asked the Knights at this time to support Building the Domestic Church: The Family Fully Alive . Let us pray that our meager efforts to support that program bear much fruit for the next generation of Catholics.
