Prayers requested- an update on our GK's Father-in-law

Ted just edited this down- I'm too much from the oversharing generation, and this was apparently more private info.

Ken writes---

I've been spending a lot of time with Don, my father-in-law, who seems to have a lot to say during his last few days here on earth.   Watching Don die has really been an eye-opening experience.  His cancer is extensive and he's not able to eat.  We've managed to force a couple teaspoons of applesauce down him each day - but he really has trouble with that.  He's getting fluids through a tube, but can't drink anything.  They didn't expect him to live, but he's a fighter.  I think he's got another week of energy left.  Sometimes he can take communion... other times not.
Prayers are requested for Don and Ken's wife Cathy.

Youth Group Request

The Youth Group would like to throw a Superbowl Party using the old big screen TV at St. Clare's.  Does anybody have an HDTV to Standard NTSC converter we can borrow for the big game?  Contact Ted Seeber, seebert42@gmail.com, if you have such a beast.

Discussion: Would we like to sell Olivewood Solidarity Crosses?

One of the fliers handed to Ted at the meeting by the District Deputy is an offer from Supreme to raise money for Christians exiled from the Middle East.  As we all know, ISIS recently destroyed an ancient monestary there, and is busy buldozing churches and Christian homes.

As part of Supreme's relief efforts, we have an opportunity to buy crosses at $5 each, and sell them for $10 at St. Clare's and St. John Fisher, to raise funds for our Christian Brothers in the Middle East.

Comment below for your thoughts.

Save the Date, Saturdary, February 20th

As has become normal for our council, we will be attending the yearly 1st-3rd exemplification in Sherwood. Renew your lesson of Charity, get the lessons of Unity and Fraternity, from one of the best degree teams in the state. If you have a potential recruit for our council who claims to be too busy to be a Knight, this is the once a year chance to go from Stranger to the Order to 3rd Degree Knight, all in one day. Pick up your candidate, and join us for breakfast at Shari's at 7:30am in Sherwood. We will get Form 100 and Membership Application Committe done there.

Schedule for the John Clare Council is similar to last year:

7:30 AM- Breakfast and or Coffee at Shari's in Sherwood
9:00 AM- Proceed to St. Francis Church in Sherwood to check in for 1st Degree
9:30 AM- 1st Degree.  I highly recommend members taking the higher degrees take this opportunity to review the lesson of Charity, and watch one of the best teams in the state!
10:30 AM- 2nd Degree.  Get the lesson of Unity from Tom Hays, State Ceremonial Chairman himself.
Noon - 3rd Degree.  The only certified third degree team in the State, and surprise visits via video from men you should recognize, including one now watching us from the Church Triumphant.
2pm- Knighting Ceremony and pictures.

A note from Alice Fay about last night's meeting

Included all you wonderful Knights of Columbus in my nighttime prayers for your amazing, impromptu contribution of $78 for the Sears Homeless Shelter. I was completely overwhelmed with your quick, sincere response..... Since I was dropping off a trunkload of stuff after the meeting, I asked the shelter staff what they needed right now and the staff said it was unanimous......BOTTLED WATER! ( not my first choice 'cuz I hate plastic bottles, but usually you have to trust on-site staff to know their needs best).. I was able to buy and deliver 20 cases (24 bottles in each) to them last night and will buy and take the other 6 over today.  They were really so appreciative as they had NONE on hand. I can't count how many times they said thank you and bless you, so I am passing those thanks and blessings on to you. You and the very generous Knights made this happen,Ted!  Of course, I gave St. Clare's Knights of Columbus council credit for this wonderful surprise donation.
And let's all keep these folks in our prayers for permanent solutions to the problem of homelessness. And also prayers for Transition Projects and the City in helping solve these problems.
Gratefully,
Alice Fay

Friday Night Movie

This Friday, at 6:30 PM, is the next movie night at St. Clare's. This one is a special one- we will be showing McGivney! the Musical, a DVD of a play done by a council back east of the last ten years of Venerable Fr. Michael J. McGivney's life.

If there is time after, I will also play a double feature including the official Supreme documentary biography after.

Please Pray for the Father-In-Law of our Grand Knight

9 Days for Life- a USCCB New Evangelization Project

The Respect Life Office of the Archdiocese wishes us to promote 9daysforlife.com, a multi-platform new evangelization effort of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

The connection between Star Wars and Catholicism

A rather inspiring article on Aleteia this morning reveals the link between the new Star Wars movie and an ancient Catholic retreat monastery dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel.

Next Movie Night Trailer

If they let us change, I'd rather do it January 15th, so that we have time to advertise.  However, this will be a good movie for all Knights and their families to watch, as well as any men you think would be good for the Knights:
